About Costin Miu
My name is Costin Miu. I am a Mountain Guide based in Bucharest, Romania. I have trained and guided people in magnificent mountains all over the world, like Aconcagua (6972m), Kilimanjaro (5895m) or Island Peak (6189m), among others. I have also guided unique treks, like Everest Base Camp (5380m) and Annapurna Circuit Trek (5420m) in Nepal. From 2013, I have been training mountaineers for ascents in the Alps, in peaks like Mont Blanc (4810m), Monte Rosa massif(Dufourspitze, 4633m), Breithorn W (4164m) and Matterhorn (4475m), probably the most famous and seeked after peak in the Alps. In 2015 I launched the only altitude climbing Project in Romania, The Mont Blanc Challenge, followed by the Alps Challenge. My philosophy as a guide is inspired on Ed Viesturs, one of the world’s greatest climbers and guides: “Safety. Fun. Summit “.This means m client’s safety is always my top priority on the mountain. My goal on each tour is to bring everyone back home safe and in one peace, not taking them to the summit at any cost. I also consider that coming back from a demanding expedition with beautiful memories is one of the most important things for a mountaineer, regardless of reaching the summmit. That’s why I always try to provide my clients with a positive experience, in order to create great memories of that mountain adventure. I believe that reaching the top of the mountain is not as important as the experience itself. Reaching the summit is for me the crowning of a process that takes place long before the ascent. This is why I consider training is a key aspect of a mountain expedition, as an optimal physical training will leave just two factors out of your control: weather, and aclimatization process if you are climbing high mountains.
