About François Perraudin

I was born on a freezing day in January, 1956, and that day’s sub-zero temperatures would serve as on omen for my professional life, dedicated to the mountains. In college, I majored in Engineering and Natural Sciences (glaciology and geophysics), with the goal of understanding the mysterious forces that have sculpted the Earth’s mountains. After graduation, my passion for photography and writing led me to become a reporter specialized on issues related to the mountains. A father of two, I have relentlessly roamed the vast horizons…of my native Valais, in Switzerland, from the plains to the high summits — always with my camera in hand and my notepad in my pocket. I currently alternate between my work as a journalist and my job as a mountain guide, which provides a delicate balance between body and mind that is essential to my well-being.
